Sunday Twilight Concert Series – Shortt Dogg

Their sound is distinctive, passionate, creative, original, soulful, honest, and powerful. For more than two decades Shortt Dogg has created a unique sound and become one of the most influential musical groups to ever come out of Oklahoma City. “We’ve made it this far because we love our music, respect ourselves and adore our fans. But most importantly, we believe in what we do”, remarks Johann Kimbro, Shortt Dogg’s founder, bassist, producer, and bandleader. Shortt Dogg is the ultimate contemporary show and dance band. 

By any measure, Shortt Dogg is one of the most talented bands to come out of the southwest United States. The ability to fuse R&B and jazz with an irresistible “funk” and intelligent lyrical content has gained the band an extremely loyal following among fans and great respect from their performing peers. From their inception, producer Johann Kimbro choose to develop a group that would fuse tight vocal harmonies with funk, neo-soul, smooth jazz, and R&B rhythms. 

At the heart of Shortt Dogg is the group’s tight 3&4 part harmonies. The group features vocalists Ckai Dawson, Rod Porter, and De’Vin Lewis. All of the vocalists cut their “musical teeth” in the church where they learned to harmonize. It is this combination of sweet harmonies and sophisticated funk that has propelled Shortt Dogg’s success and secured the group’s reputation as one of the “southwest’s best show & dance band”.
