For Sarah W. Frank, getting involved with Arts Council Oklahoma City started with Festival of the Arts and quickly grew into something much bigger.
After first volunteering with Festival, Sarah learned about the Artisans through friends and saw an opportunity to deepen her connection to the organization while meeting other young professionals who shared her interest in Oklahoma City’s creative community.
“One of my favorite parts of being an Artisan has been the relationships I’ve built with fellow steering committee members and volunteers,” Sarah says. From monthly meetings and special recruiting events to long days together on Festival grounds, those shared experiences have created what she describes as an invaluable network of peers, mentors, and friends.
That drive to connect people and strengthen community carries throughout Sarah’s professional and civic life. A University of Oklahoma graduate, she serves as Events Manager at Allied Arts while also owning and operating OKC Embroidery, a growing small business. She is a member of LOYAL Class XX and serves on both the Plaza Festival Planning Committee and Shred Cancer Events Committee.
For Sarah, these experiences have all provided a closer look at just how much work goes into making Oklahoma City’s arts community accessible.
“I wish more people knew how tirelessly the dedicated Arts Council OKC staff members and volunteers work to make the arts accessible to everyone in Oklahoma City, regardless of age, background, ability, or interest,” she says. “There truly is something for everyone.”
Through Artisans, Sarah is helping build the next generation of advocates, volunteers, and leaders who will continue shaping Oklahoma City’s cultural community — while proving that getting involved can be as valuable for the relationships you build as the work you accomplish together.
