Due to damage the Stage Center building sustained in the June 2010 flood the Arts Council of Oklahoma City has transferred ownership of the building back to Kirkpatrick Center Affiliated Fund. The Arts Council of Oklahoma City, the foundation and task force all concur that Stage Center needed to be under a single ownership – the Kirkpatrick Center Affiliated Fund. Undoubtedly, Stage Center has been the showpiece of our arts campus and we’ve hosted many events and arts programs at this facility over the years. But the maintenance and upkeep of the building has always been a concern of the Council and has prevented us from providing additional arts programming and services to the community.
A taskforce of local community and arts leaders hired a feasibility consulting and research firm to conduct a study to determine the future needs of a performance facility for arts and other organizations, and whether the refurbishing or rebuilding of such a facility is viable and practical at this time. We are now more able to focus efforts on providing additional arts programming for the community. We look forward to the results of the study and hope a viable solution can be found that will provide a new home for performance art in Oklahoma City – wherever that home may be.
