OKLAHOMA CITY – The Arts Council of Oklahoma City is currently displaying an exhibit of Festival of the Arts artists at the Bank of America Gallery in Leadership Square.
The exhibit, titled “Peter’s Picks,” consists of six original pieces chosen by Arts Council of Oklahoma City executive director Peter Dolese. The pieces include works by well-known former and current Plaza Artists: Bert Beirne, Greg Burns, Maximo Cortina, Victoria Elbroch, Jim Keffer and Bert Seabourn.
Each piece has a unique meaning and memory for Dolese, who has been working for the Arts Council of Oklahoma City and a part of Festival of the Arts for more than 20 years.
“Throughout the years I have made some great friends in the artist community who show at Festival of the Arts. The quality of their work speaks for itself. Each piece carries memories of wonderful time shared since the festival began back in 1967,” said Dolese.
All artwork is from the arts council’s permanent collection and will be on display through April 30. Since 1979, the Arts Council of Oklahoma City has commissioned a Festival of the Arts artist to create an original piece of artwork, which is then turned into a commemorative poster for top patrons and donors. This year’s commissioned piece is by Eufaula artist Floyd Gibson.
Festival of the Arts is produced by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City, and is presented by Chesapeake Energy Corporation and Devon Energy Corporation. The Festival takes place April 20-25 in downtown Oklahoma City at the Festival Plaza, Stage Center and the Myriad Botanical Gardens. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and pets are not allowed.
The Arts Council of Oklahoma City is an Allied Arts member agency and received funding from the Oklahoma Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts. For more information, visit www.ArtsCouncilOKC.com or call 405-270-4848.
