Arts Council of Oklahoma City Offers Free Event for Teaching Artists

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Arts Council of Oklahoma City presents the latest session of Teaching Artist Toolbox focused on older adults.

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Arts Council of Oklahoma City is presenting a session called “Creative Aging” focused on bringing the arts to seniors. Different metro arts programs will be highlighted and discussed regarding the benefits of focusing programs toward seniors.

“The arts are an effective tool that allow us to communicate within and between generations,” said Jennifer Barron, Community Arts Program Director. “This Teaching Artist Toolbox workshop will focuson the importance of providing quality arts learning programs for older adults. Teaching artists and program specialists who work with older adults will discuss the benefits that these programs offer our community and they will share examples of successful practice.”

Panelists include: Vicki Woods, Executive Director of Easter Seals; Amanda Harmer, Education and Community Outreach Coordinator at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art; and DWe Williams, teaching artist and professional storyteller.

The workshops are free and geared toward teaching artists in Oklahoma City. The event will take place at the Village Library at 10307 N. Penn. Register online at www.ArtsCouncilOKC.com.
